A SIREN, a Brick Path and a Shed…

ON FEBRUARY 2, 2009, I started writing my fourth novel, Siren, in my usual “writing night” haunt at Rizzo’s in Naperville, IL. Six months later, on August 3rd, I finished the final chapter in my usual spot – booth #11 – at Rizzo’s.  In between were many writing nights at Rizzo’s, as well as many early 6 a.m. mornings writing  in my home office before heading to work, and late nights in a candle-lit basement, with…

Under Siege!

YESTERDAY, A FEW BLOCKS from where I work, a convicted armed robber escaped from his escort on the way to a court sentencing. The guy changed clothes with one of his former guards, hijacked a car and then ditched it not far away — in the parking lot next to the office building where I work! I gotta tell you, it’s hard to get much done when all the buildings and schools in the area go…

Famous Monsters Interview!

FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND asked me a bunch of questions… and I gave bunch of answers!  They just posted the results of the interview here: 2018 Note – this blog used to link to the interview, but it is no longer available on the Famous Monsters site. I’ve posted an image of  what it looked like.  Below is what it said:   Interview with John Everson Posted by sean in General, Interviews, Literature on August…

Crisler wishes me flat beer!

LINCOLN CRISLER POSTED a funny and flattering review of Sacrifice on his blog today. He’s a little “pissed off” at how it ends, and closes his review by wishing me flat beer forever if I’m not working on a sequel LOL. (I do have one in mind, but it’s not on its way in the near future, I’m afraid). Here’s some of what he wrote: I refuse to say it finishes the story, however. I…

Fatally Yours thrills to SACRIFICE!

SO I JUST HAPPENED on the Facebook page of the Fatally-Yours.com site tonight and found this newly posted review of my novel Sacrifice. It was too good not to share because I’m hoping a lot of horror fans will ultimately check this book out. I’m really proud of it, and the reviews have been amazing.  Here’s a snippet of the new one: Sacrifice is a thrilling and shocking piece of genre fiction that deserves to…

OFIARA + THE 13TH Flats!

THIS WAS A reallllllly good mail day! I’ve been waiting for weeks for my copies of the Polish edition of Sacrifice to hit my doorstep (known across the water as Ofiara). I have asked my wife dozens of times on the phone while at work: Hey, is there a box from Poland in the mail? She always said No. But today – she called me to say: Hey… the mailman just had me sign for a box from…

SACRIFICE Tour: Wrapping Up!

BACK AT THE END of April, when I started visiting bookstores and doing signings to promote my novel Sacrifice, I had this idea that I would blog every week about the tour, post pictures, produce kind of a travelogue… Yeah. That didn’t happen. In early May, I chronicled week one (San Diego, St. Louis and Springfield), but since then, I’ve been running around too much to blog about where I’ve been, until now, as it…

Hypericon & a BBQ obsession

I’VE ALWAYS LOVED BARBECUE. Hell, I have my own secret sauce recipe. I’ve had great barbecue in Kansas City and Austin and Dallas, among other cities. But my favorite to date may be a little place in Nashville, TN called Jack’s Bar-B-Que. Thank you, Hypericon, for having me down to Nashville so I could discover it! Here’s how it all went down. (And FYI – you can click on any photos on this page for…

Stokers 2009 Redux w/Pix!

I’VE BEEN TO several Bram Stoker Award ceremonies over the years. I remember my first couple, in the early 2000s, felt very formal and a little stuffy (though that might have had more to do with me being a newbie to the field than the events themselves). The last couple I went to were simply nerve-wracking for me, since I was a nominee. This year’s, however, was the best ever, as far as I’m concerned!…
