Wizard World Chicago Comic Con 2017

I HAD A GREAT time at Wizard World Chicago Comic Con this weekend! These conventions always seem to fly by; one minute it’s Thursday and it looks like tons of time ahead… and then all of a sudden it’s 4 p.m. Sunday and you’re packing up to go home. This year, once again author wrangler and moderator extraordinaire Genese  Davis pulled me in to do panels on fiction writing and help with managing the author…

Flashback Weekend 2017 = Suspiria and Better Off Dead!

FLASHBACK WEEKEND is one of my favorite events of the year, but this year’s edition for me can be summed up in five words:  Suspiria and Better Off Dead! These are two of my favorite films, and this year, Synapse Films gave a preview of their 4K restoration of Suspiria next door to the hotel at the former Muvico theater. And it was gorgeous! Don May gave a brief talk about the trials of restoring…

Horrorhound 2016 = Meeting Chainsaw, Dave and Lynn Lowry!

I’VE BEEN TO HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis for the past few years as a guest of my publisher Samhain Publishing, signing autographs all weekend at their “author table.” But, this year, since Samhain is closing down their horror line at the end of the year, they didn’t end up sponsoring a table. So, there was not going to be any “author-fest” this time around. Nevertheless, since I’ve enjoyed the convention a lot, despite Samhain’s absence,…

Guesting at Chicago’s ComicCon

ENJOYED A PRETTY AMAZING weekend at Wizard World Chicago Comic Con the past few days. It was the first time I’ve ever gone to Comic Con, and I owe a huge thanks to Mort Castle and author track moderator Genese Davis for reeling me in to the programming… which also led to being part of a revolving author table in the Exhibit Hall. Genese set up all of the author panels, and asked Brian Pinkerton…

Chicago Horror Film Fest ~ 2015

Had a great time yesterday hanging out with Brian Pinkerton, seeing Ron Fitzgerald’s always entertaining illusion show and talking to horror fans (and a couple video interviewers!) at the Chicago Horror Film Fest. And I sat on a lively panel discussion about character creation with Brian, fest founder Jason Davis, Samhain Publishing labelmate David Hayes and Hailey R. Suits. I can’t be back at the fest today for Day 2, but already looking forward to…

World Horror Convention 2015 – Atlanta

WORLD HORROR CON 2015 was a strangely quiet convention for me. I’m not sure why, really — maybe because I was so burnt out from the crazy weeks that led up to it — but it was almost like I was an “observer” at the convention. I just never… quite… engaged. While I did spend some good times with old friends, I also ended up having a couple meals off on my own. And everybody…

OddCon 2015 was … oddly entertaining!

HAD A GREAT TIME this weekend at OdysseyCon hanging out with friends like Jonathan Maberry, W.D. Gagliani, David Benton, Chris Welch and Christine Verstraete and meeting very cool folks like Matt Forbeck, Alex Bledsoe, Paul Dale Anderson and James Frenkel. There were panels. There was craft beer. There was a cow zombie apocalypse at the opening ceremonies! Christine Verstraete posted a nice summary of the con with some quotes on her blog. I started the…

HorrorHound Weekend 2013

I HAD A GREAT TIME this weekend hanging out and talking horror with my fellow authors from Samhain Publishing at HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis! This was the first HorrorHound I’ve gone to, and hopefully won’t be the last. My publisher, Samhain, was a major sponsor of the event and so they had a long table right in the front of the exhibit hall where I sat all weekend and signed copies of Violet Eyes and…

World Horror Convention 2013 / Bram Stoker Awards

AT THE START, it always seems like you have all the time in the world… and then suddenly, it’s over and everyone’s on a plane back home. World Horror Convention 2013 in New Orleans was no different… this was my 11th World Horror Con, and a special one for me, since my novel NightWhere was a Bram Stoker Awards finalist for best novel (the awards were held Saturday night). THURSDAY I flew in Thursday morning…

Horrorfind ’12: the New Horror

LAST WEEKEND WAS BOTH a Return and a New Beginning. I returned to the Horrorfind Weekend Convention in Gettysburg, PA after eight years. A lot of water has rushed under the horror bridge since the last time I was there. But it was also a new beginning… most of the reason I went was because my new publisher, Samhain Horror, was a sponsor. A preview of the print edition of NightWhere debuted there and I…
